Beginning of Asian Connections radio:
Ranbir Chauhan, the founder of radio “Asian Connections” came to Canada on August 11, 1997. He stared his dream venture Asian Connections Radio in March 2000. Initially it was just a one hour program. But Ranbir put his heart and mind into it and sooner the popularity of radio program among Asian community grew manifold.
Dedication to the needs of South Asian community:
The radio program catered to the needs of the South Asian community in Canada and sooner, it started engaging the audience by sharing their birthdays, anniversaries, events and festivals. They also discussed the legal issues, immigration and other related topics which concerned the South Asian community. People liked the format of the radio program and soon it created a sense of belonging among the audience as it started voicing the concerns of the community. Social issues were also a part of debates on the radio.
Because of the huge popularity, the radio programme was extended to 3 hours. But even this extension could not suffice the demand. Ranbir Chauhan and Raina Sen, co-hosted the programme; both are versatile artists with enticing voices. Kishore Kumar songs played by them became so popular that they had to extend the radio programme to 4 hours on 101.3 FM. Inbound calls of listeners boomed. Ranbir and Raina introduced many new segments during that period.
Birth of Asian Connections Media Group Canada:
With the launch of its publications arm, our media venture was soon named Asian Connections Media Group Canada. Ranbir decided to further share the issues and concerns voiced by the listeners on Asian Connections radio show through their new media venture Asian Connections newspaper. The newspaper team includes Ranbir Chauhan, Raina Sen, Ranjit Chauhan, Raghbir Chauhan, Rakhi Prabhakar, Kalpesh Vakharia, Bashir Nasir, Dr. Bikram Lamba and Marcellus D’Souza.
